D.C. Native Loves to B.E. Home in Baltimore

Writer, real estate investor, Uber and Lyft driver, social media consultant. Cheryl Crockett is all these things, and as of Thanksgiving 2017, she’s also a Belair-Edison homeowner. It’s no wonder she describes herself as “energetic about life.”

Cheryl was born and raised in northwest Washington, DC, in the newly fashionable neighborhood of Petworth, east of Rock Creek Park. Well before prices rose and new residents began moving in, Cheryl describes a close-knit neighborhood “where people cared about one another.” Although new to northeast Baltimore, she believes she’s found similar qualities in Belair-Edison. What’s more, her renovated rowhome reminds her of her family home.

A Main Street Mainstay Gives Back

When Jung Hong opened Manna Café on Belair Road in 2008, it didn’t take long for it to become one of Belair-Edison’s most popular eateries. Mr. Hong tracks his customer traffic carefully and says that over the years, an average of 200 customers a day will come to the café between Wednesday and Saturday.

He thinks it helps that the Dollar Tree is right next door, but once people try his food, they keep coming back. He’s always happy when new customers come in because they were referred by other customers, and he takes pride in his store being clean, providing good service and serving good food, like his popular fried chicken, lake trout, and western fries.
